Prof. Anne Kahru

Anne Kahru is a Research Professor of the Estonian Academy of Sciences and Head of Laboratory of Environmental Toxicology of National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics (NICPB), Tallinn, Estonia.  She is the Vice-Chair of the Scientific Council of NICPB. She has authored 166 scientific papers,  H index=37 (ISI WoS). Anne Kahru belongs to the top 1% most cited scientists worldwide in two areas: Environment/Ecology and Pharmacology and Toxicology (ISI-ESI).   Her Lab was among the first ones in nanoecotoxicological studies of metal oxide nanoparticles and she is the first Estonian scientist ever interviewed by Thomson Reuters ScienceWatch. She has supervised 8 PhD Thesis and is currently supervising 3 PhD students. She has led as  Estonian PI several FP6 and FP7 EU projects (OSIRIS, MODERN, NanoValid). In 2011 Prof. Anne Kahru received the Estonian State Science Award for her research “Ecotoxicology of synthetic nanoparticles and their toxicity mechanisms”.  She is awarded with State Order of the White Star (Class IV)(2017). Anne Kahru is also a founder (1997) and the President of the Estonian Society of Toxicology. She was a member of the Expert group on Women in Research Decision Making (WIRDEM) of the European Commission (2006−2007) and a member of the Estonian Evaluators Board  of the  L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science fellowship.
